Terina Owen
Technical. Thoughtful. Articulate.
“I love the critical thinking involved in architecture, and the team building that has to occur for successful design to evolve. You’re not working alone inside a box where nobody sees what you’re doing — architectural design involves a team solving problems.”
Terina Owen is a technically strong designer who thrives in the tension and balance between artist, engineer, and manager that takes place in architectural collaboration. Over her 20 years of practice, she’s developed strengths in technical design detailing and production documents, with a specialty in building envelopes and its critical importance to the success of a building’s durability. An enthusiastic mentor, Terina relishes in sharing her knowledge with her colleagues.
“I like working with designers to make a concept stronger in design execution through project detailing. The concept is strengthened because it’s executed throughout the whole of a project. The details are the execution of the concept, and that’s what people respond to when they like a building. For me, architecture is about the honesty of the material and the dialogue between form and function..”
Effective communication is a key component of Terina’s approach. She’s a proponent of using tools and technology, like BIM and Sketch-up, to help clients visualize their space and facilitate conversations around preferences. She believes it is her job to listen and apply the client’s input on the design, and to guide them in understanding what to expect of the finished product.
